WWDC 2023: What The Duck? Apple Finally Changes Autocorrect Function For Expletive

Well, it’s about ducking time.

Apple’s slew of new products at WWDC, including the new MacBook Air 15, Mac Pro, Mac Studio and Vision Pro might be turning heads and creating conversation, but one of the biggest announcements is a change to one thing that has annoyed users around the world.

As part of the upcoming software update to its operating systems, Apple will allow the software to adapt to unique spellings, making it easier to type more effectively in colloquial language, and as part of this change, will finally allow users to type a popular expletive, instead of always automatically switching it to ‘duck’ or ‘ducking’.

As part of the keynote held at Apple Park in Cupertino, Apple’s software chief, Craig Federighi said, “In those moments where you just want to type a ducking word, well, the keyboard will learn it too.”

Apple autocorrect software, while efficient, has been known to also make corrections or propose ones that don’t always make sense, and the ducking one has long been one of annoyance to users who have to constantly type, retype and apologise for the constant use of duck and ducking while messaging.

Prior to WWDC, Apple stock closed at an all-time high, putting the company’s valuation at close to US$3 trillion. During its annual developer conference, the company also announced a new US$3,499 mixed-reality headset that is set to go on sale in early 2024.

And fans can look forward to correctly sending, via message, that both these achievements are ridiculously ducking high.
