Ready for the lasso of truth? Wonder Woman 3 is not happening.
Despite claims from actress Gal Gadot herself, Warner Bros is not developing a Wonder Woman movie (via Variety). As seen from the DC Universe line-up announced in February this year too, James Gunn and Peter Safran did not mention a Wonder Woman movie.
In a previous interview, Gadot confidently claimed that the DC Studios co-CEOs are keen on working together with her for a third movie.
“I was invited to a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and what they told me, and I’m quoting: ‘You’re in the best hands. We’re going to develop Wonder Woman 3 with you. [We] love you as Wonder Woman— you’ve got nothing to worry about.’ So time will tell,” said Gadot.
It is unclear what caused the misunderstanding, or what was exactly said during Gadot’s interaction with Safran and Gunn. As of now, no spokesperson for the studio has released an official comment. What we do know though, is that the co-CEOs are developing Paradise Lost.
Paradise Lost is a Game of Thrones-style drama set in Themyscira. It will be a prequel series on MAX, meaning the political intrigue and scheming between power players on this all-female island will be before the events of the Wonder Woman movies.
Gunn and Safran will be launching their new DC Universe content after the release of the already confirmed Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Blue Beetle is understood to be a stand-alone movie, meaning the characters and universe could potentially be part of Gunn and Safran’s DC Future, though the studio has not made it clear if it is or isn’t.
Aquaman may suffer a different fate, though. Despite actor Jason Momoa promising exciting news in the near future for his character, his colleagues Gadot and Henry Cavill haven’t found much luck in Gunn and Safran’s new DC Universe. Guess there’s not much fans, nor the stars, can do or say until either co-CEOs come forward to set the record straight.
