Warner Bros. Is Officially Working On A Funko Pop Movie

It’s finally official, we’re getting a Funko Pop movie courtesy of Warner Bros.

Rumours of the project first surfaced earlier this year, with a tweet by SuperBroMovies writer Daniel Richtman. In a now-deleted tweet, Richtman posted a photo of a board showing off the upcoming animation projects that Warner Bros. will be working on, and on the board, a slot for a Funko Pop movie can be seen. Richtman then went on to tweet about the characters that according to him are “already confirmed for the Funko movie”, such as Darth Vader, Deadpool, Hellboy, and My Little Pony.

Now, we finally have confirmation that Warner Bros. has partnered up with Funko Pop to bring the bobble-headed vinyl figurines to the big screen.

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. has optioned the rights to the Funko Pop brand and now their animation branch is set to bring the toys to life with a movie. The film will feature a script penned by Oscar-nominated director and designer Teddy Newton (The Trouble with Lou), with Disney Animation veteran director Mark Dindal (The Emperor’s New Groove, Chicken Little) also on board to help produce the movie.

“We’re thrilled for this opportunity and are committed to make an amazing Funko movie that stands on its own merit. This isn’t about selling toys or building a brand,” Funko CEO Brian Mariotti said. “The team at Warner Animation Group have a unique vision of what the first film should be and we are extremely excited to take this journey alongside them.”

We still do not know how the movie will unfold plot-wise as well as who will be lending their voices to the movie but we’re sure a Funko Pop movie will be our only chance to see Pikachu, Darth Vader, Deadpool, and Hello Kitty in a movie together.

For those who can’t wait for the movie to be released, Funko has already produced some animated shorts on their official YouTube channel. We imagine the Funko Pop movie by Warner Bros. will be something along the lines of these animated shorts.
