Vin Diesel’s ‘Riddick: Furya’ Sequel Shooting This August

After spending nearly ten years in development hell, Riddick: Furya is ready to return to cinemas sometime soon. Vin Diesel will reprise his role as intergalactic outlaw Riddick, and previously acquired the rights to the franchise in exchange for appearing in Fast & Furious.

Director David Twohy returns for Furya, with Diesel also producing, along with his sister Samantha Vincent for One Race Films, Rocket Science’s Lars Sylvest, and Thank You Studios’ Joe Neurauter.

Both Twohy and Diesel have teased concepts for the film over the years. Furya was said to be R-rated in a 2015 interview with Movie Web, and was expected to begin shooting in 2017, but the project soon fell into development hell. Furya is expected to begin shooting on 26 August 2024 in Germany, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

Furya is the fourth film in the series and a direct sequel to Riddick (2013), after the success of Pitch Black (2000) inspired a film franchise, The Chronicles of Riddick, which has three movies to date. Diesel has also said the film would be Riddick’s origin story, pulling back the curtain on the mysterious character’s origins.

Here’s a look at the plot synopsis:

Riddick finally returns to his homeworld, a place he barely remembers and one he fears might be left in ruins. But there he finds other Furyans fighting for their existence against a new monster. And some of these Furyans are more like Riddick than he could have ever imagined.
