Ubisoft has released Title Update 1.4.0 for Star Wars Outlaws, which not only adds a whole bunch of improvements to the game but also, more notably, removes its stealth requirements almost completely, allowing players to finally go in all guns blazing, literally.
As detailed in its latest blog post, the update’s main focus was on adding greater player choice when it comes to approaching missions, be it taking the stealthy approach or going in loud. To facilitate more satisfying gunfights, combat has also been tweaked, adding new features like being able to carry two-handed weapons in more situations, along with new weak spots on certain enemies that can be targeted for interesting effects.
The notable changes listed in the post include:
- Updates to stealth and combat that allow players greater choice, including using stealth or reaching for their blaster, even in syndicate territories in cities.
- Enemy AI and detection improvements, with players being notified when they’re being detected and can choose to escalate or change tactics to remain in stealth.
- Enemy weak points have been added to reward strategic gameplay, which if targeted can trigger explosions or cause enemies to die in spectacular new ways.
- Re-tuned Kay’s blaster and pickup weapons to improve the combat experience, including being able to carry two handed weapons in more situations.
- Facial expressions and animations in dialogue scenes have been improved, the option to toggle off the cinematic lens during gameplay has been added, and the visibility of distant lights has been improved.
Apart from the major changes, the update will also include bug fixes and smaller quality-of-life additions, such as the ability to manually swap shoulder views, improvements to cover functionality and re-tuned blaster modules for a smoother gameplay experience. New content has also been added in the form of free additional Contracts, the game’s equivalent of side quests.
These tweaks are certainly much appreciated, as one of the game’s biggest flaws when it launched was forcing players into situations where stealth was compulsory, or preventing them from engaging in combat even though Kay had her blaster on hand, and the changes finally allow players to play the game the way they desire, making it more enticing for those who don’t necessarily enjoy the stealth genre.
