‘Transformers One’ Trailer Teases Optimus Prime & Megatron’s Origin

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the massive Transformers toy, comic, video games, film and TV series franchise, and for the die-hard fans, there’s one more surprise in store – a new animated film and only the second Transformers animated movie since the much beloved original from 1986. So it’s only fitting that we’re getting the highly anticipated Transformers One, which will finally reveal the long-awaited origin story of how the two most iconic characters in the Transformers universe, Orion Pax and D-16, went from brothers-in-arms, to become lifelong sworn enemies, Optimus Prime and Megatron.

Directed by Josh Cooley, the trailer for the film, which stars Chris Hemsworth as Orion Pax aka young Optimus Prime, Brian Tyree Henry as D-16 aka young Megatron, and Scarlett Johansson as Elita-1 has just dropped and given fans a first look at a previously unexplored chapter in Transformers lore. The film also stars Keegan-Michael Key as B-127 aka young Bumblebee, Laurence Fishburne as the forever old Alpha Trion, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime and Steve Buscemi in an undisclosed role.

While the premise revisits a classic chapter in the franchise, the trailer shows that Paramount Pictures, Hasbro and ILM have gone with a more comedic, youthful, and family-friendly approach, where the familiar Transformers characters fans know and love are (technically) teenagers in this movie.

Transformers One opens in cinemas on 12 September 2024 in Singapore.
