‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Taking Flight To 755 IMAX Screens Globally

It’s about time to return to the danger zone, and my, is it going to be a grand global affair. Ahead of the Top Gun: Maverick premiere on 25 May, IMAX has announced that the highly-anticipated sequel will be soaring onto 755 cinemas in 71 territories at launch.

Considering that nearly an hour of footage was filmed in IMAX’s Expanded Aspect Ratio, it certainly makes sense for Top Gun: Maverick to release in so many IMAX theatres across the globe. The additional aspect ratio also means fans can enjoy 26 percent more of the picture during select sequences, which makes stunt executions a sight to behold.

The worldwide landing is proof that actor Tom Cruise’s decision to reject a streaming debut for the film has paid off. On top of glowing early reviews, it received a six-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival as well.

The celebration for the need of speed doesn’t end there. Closer to home, a light, water, and pyrotechnic display has opened its doors to the Marina Bay Sands public, while combat flight simulation video game Ace Combat 7 is getting a special crossover DLC with the sequel.

Top Gun: Maverick is opening on 25 May 2022 worldwide, and will follow Cruise as he reprises his role as the titular Maverick from the 1986 film, who is now teaching the new generation of Top Gun pilots. These individuals include Miles Teller as Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, the son of Nick “Goose” Bradshaw, Anthony Edwards’ character from the original, and Maverick’s late copilot.

The rest of the starring cast includes Val Kilmer as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Ed Harris, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Monica Barbaro, Charles Parnell, Danny Ramirez, Manny Jacinto, Bashir Salahuddin, Jay Ellis, Jake Picking, Raymond Lee, and Jean Louisa Kell.
