Previously unveiled in January 2021, the all-new Indiana Jones video game will feature a unique, standalone tale set at the height of the renowned explorer’s career.
Based on the tweet by Bethesda, MachineGames, the company behind Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein: The New Colossus, are teaming up with Bethesda and LucasFilm Games to develop the game.
Bethesda’s Todd Howard, the executive producer of the new Indiana Jones game, appeared on the latest video of the Lex Fridman podcast to give more insights on the mystery project.
The question of whether the game will feature an action-adventure component was directed at Howard, who responded with, “I would just say it’s a mash-up. It is unique, it isn’t one thing intentionally, so it does a lot of different things that myself and the folks at MachineGames have wanted to do in a game. So it’s a unique thing.”
In other parts of the interview, Howard acknowledged that he was a fan of the first Indiana Jones movie, Raiders of the Lost Ark. He referred to it as “the best movie ever” and said that working on an adjacent video game version was an experience off his bucket list.
He claimed that MachineGames was a “perfect fit” to develop the upcoming game, praising the storytelling and how the game is recorded. He even called the game “a definite love letter to Indiana Jones and everything with it”, much to the delight of fans.
No concrete information on a release date or platform has yet been provided. However, given that Xbox now owns Bethesda, it will likely be an Xbox exclusive. Meanwhile, fans can feast their eyes on the upcoming fifth film, releasing in theatres on 30 June 2023.
