There are some actors whose character portrayals leave a lasting impression, and Henry Cavill’s (Argylle) performance as Geralt of Rivia has garnered plenty of support from fans of the franchise. The actor’s surprise departure from Netflix’s The Witcher spelled the end for the series, which will wrap up with a fifth season.
But with two seasons left, Liam Hemsworth, Cavill’s replacement as Geralt, is struggling to find his footing, and a new leak from Metro revealed a first look at him in full costume. The scene might be familiar, as it’s Geralt’s duel against the sorcerer Vilgefortz (Mahesh Jadu) from Season 3, which is likely being recreated to include Hemsworth’s Geralt in Season 4.
Here’s a side-by-side comparison of Cavill as Geralt (left), and the leaked set images showing Hemsworth in the exact same outfit. While Cavill pulls it off with effortless charm, Hemsworth seems to be struggling to channel Geralt’s brooding demeanour.
The show’s producers, Steve Gaub and Tomek Baginski, have assured fans that they “have a very, very good plan to introduce our new Geralt and our new vision for Geralt with Liam,” that would be “very, very close to the meta ideas which are deeply embedded in the books, especially in book five.”
It’ll be interesting to see how Season 4 deals with Cavill’s departure from the show, and introduces Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt, but fans will have to wait a little longer. Untilthen, why not rewatch the earlier seasons of The Witcher?
