Sick of superhero movies? Looking for something new to stir up emotions or expand your love for film? Then the Nordic Film Festival 2023 may just be what you need.
The Nordic Film Festival is returning this year from 7 to 16 September with films from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. It will be shown exclusively at The Projector.
An event in collaboration with the Embassy of Denmark, the Embassy of Finland, the Embassy of Iceland, the Royal Norwegian Embassy and the Embassy of Sweden, film lovers can choose among a curated selection of five Scandinavian films that were previously unreleased in Singapore.
Award-winning Nordic film Sick of Myself is the opening film of the event. Screenings for every film is limited, with only one showtime per film. All five films will be screened at The Projector’s Golden Mile Tower outlet.
Tickets start from S$11 for members of The Projector. General tickets start from S$13.
Sick of Myself (Norway)
7 September, 7:30pm
Body horror meets black comedy in this satire on the corrosive effects wrought by the craving for public attention. From the producer of The Worst Person in the World, Sick of Myself sees a young narcissist take her need for validation to extremes. It stars Kristine Kujath Thorp, Eirik Sæther and Fanny Vaager.
Burn All My Letters (Sweden)
8 September, 8pm
Burn All My Letters is inspired by a real-life clandestine affair in the 1930s between a passionate woman and a young writer, while she was married to an older, more established author. The story is told from three perspectives and hops between time frames spanning 70 years. Simply put, Burn All My Letters is a sprawling love story rife with molten emotions and fiery performances from Bill Skarsgård, Gustav Lindh and Asta Kamma August.
Bubble (Finland)
9 September, 8pm
16-year-old Eveliina’s small-town world is shaken to its core when she catches her mother kissing another woman. Her father doesn’t seem to have any idea what’s happening, so it’s up to Eveliina to hatch a plan to derail the affair and save her parents’ marriage. This drama-comedy stars Stella Leppikorpi, Minna Haapkylä and Tommi Korpela.
Riders of Justice (Denmark)
15 September, 8:30pm
Indiana Jones star Mads Mikkelsen leads this high-octane action-thriller. In Riders of Justice, Mikkelsen plays Markus, a military man who returns home to his teenage daughter following the death of his wife, who died in a tragic train crash. All appears to be a tragic accident until a survivor of the train and two other colleagues show up and take Markus on a hell of a ride filled with surprising twists and turns.
Band (Iceland)
16 September, 8:30pm
A comedy of failures, Band stars Álfrún Örnólfsdóttir, Hrefna Lind Lárusdóttir and Saga Sigurðardóttir and follows three women on the brink of 40 who try to become popstars. They find themselves coming of age again, and tango between their artistic dreams and the meaning of friendship, as well as juggle the pressures of motherhood. Playing creatively with the documentary form, Band tells a big little story of triumphant sisterhood.
