The enduring charm of Studio Ghibli films lies in many areas, from handcrafted animation and the nuanced exploration of real-world themes to a memorable score. Following a six-month exhibition at the ArtScience Museum, fans in Singapore can relive their magical experience yet again – this time in pure musical form.
Taking place on 11 June 2025, 8pm SGT (Singapore Time) at the Star Theatre, The Music of Studio Ghibli – Original Singers Symphony will mark the country’s first live showing by original cast members who have lent their voices to the soundtracks of some of the studio’s beloved titles. The list includes:
- Yoshikazu Mera – Acclaimed countertenor known for performing the theme from Princess Mononoke.
- Sumi Shimamoto – Celebrated singer and voice actress best known for her roles in Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, My Neighbor Totoro, The Castle of Cagliostro, and more.
- Azumi Inoue – Renowned for her gentle, timeless vocals featured in Laputa: Castle in the Sky and My Neighbor Totoro.
- Yuyu – Rising singer and daughter of Azumi Inoue, who debuted on NHK’s Minna no Uta in 2012 and continues to charm audiences with her fresh interpretations.
Additionally, the concert is backed by the 17-member Tokyo Asia Orchestra, led by distinguished violinist and concertmaster Takeshi Hashima. Attendees can expect melodies from fan-favourite classics like Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, My Neighbor Totoro, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, and Princess Mononoke, performed by the original vocalists who brought them to life.
