Up, up, and away! House of the Dragon‘s Milly Alcock has officially been introduced as Supergirl in the upcoming DC Universe film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Cameras have begun rolling, marking the second major instalment in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s reimagined DC Universe. To celebrate, both Alcock and Gunn shared a glimpse of the production, providing an exciting tease of what fans can expect.
Gunn took to social media to announce the start of filming at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in London, with Craig Gillespie of Cruella and I, Tonya fame directing the project. Gunn shared a photo of Alcock in her actor’s chair, accompanied by a message expressing excitement about her portrayal of Kara Zor-El/Supergirl. Alcock herself posted an image captioned, “Introducing Kara,” alongside a rocket emoji, hinting at the beginnings of her journey as the Girl of Steel.
The movie draws heavily from the critically acclaimed graphic novel by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. The story follows a young alien girl, Ruthye Marye Knoll, who enlists Supergirl’s help to avenge her father’s murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. This standalone narrative received significant praise and even earned a nomination for “Best Limited Series” at the 2022 Eisner Awards. Fans of the comic will likely notice familiar elements, such as the bar Kara frequents, which appears to have been recreated for the film.

Joining Alcock are Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem and Eve Ridley as Ruthye, with Jason Momoa stepping into the DCU as the iconic character Lobo. David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham will portray Kara’s Kryptonian parents, Zor-El and Alura. One interesting detail from the set photo reveals the use of the Kingdom Come version of the S-logo, suggesting a unified yet distinct visual identity for the Kryptonian family in this new universe.
Set to follow Gunn’s Superman: Legacy, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is part of a slate of upcoming DCU projects. Other films in development include The Batman Part II and a potential Clayface project from Mike Flanagan. With Alcock leading the way, this new chapter for Supergirl could set the tone for DC’s future. Good luck, Queen of the Seven Kingdoms.
