Super Nintendo World Japan Plans Donkey Kong Zone To Launch 2024

Banana slamma!! Nintendo has confirmed plans to expand Super Nintendo World, its recently opened theme park at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka, with a new Donkey Kong area.

Adding a Donkey Kong expansion is not surprising given how popular the game was, and continues to be, on Nintendo video game systems such as the Nintendo Switch, Wii and more. The video game series has sold over 65 million units as of March 2021.

The new area will feature a roller coaster, interactive experiences and themed merchandise and food. Guests will be able to take a walk on the wild side through the lush jungles where Donkey Kong and his friends live.

“I am very happy to be able to make the world of Donkey Kong a reality following the world of Mario,” said Donkey Kong and Mario character creator Shigeru Miyamoto in a statement.

“I am looking forward to creating a thrilling Donkey Kong experience with the amazing team at Universal. It will take some time until it is completed, but it will be a unique area for not only people who are familiar with Donkey Kong games but for all guests.”

Super Nintendo World plans to open the new themed area in 2024. The themed park first opened on 18 March 2021.
