Steve Buscemi Joins Netflix’s ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 As Nevermore Academy’s New Principal

Steve Buscemi is set to join the cast of the hit Netflix series Wednesday for its upcoming second season, as reported by Variety. While details about his character remain sparse, it is rumoured that Buscemi will step into the role of the new principal of Nevermore Academy.

Buscemi, a veteran actor renowned for his diverse roles, has been a prominent figure in both film and television over the years. His career highlights include playing Nucky Thompson in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire and Mr. Pink in Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs. Additionally, he has made memorable cameo appearances in several Adam Sandler movies, such as Big Daddy, Billy Madison, and Mr. Deeds.

Wednesday debuted on Netflix in November 2022 and rapidly gained popularity, amassing over 1 billion viewing hours and becoming the second most-watched show on the platform shortly after its release. Netflix confirmed a second season about two months post-launch due to the show’s success.

The series, which stars Jenna Ortega as the eponymous Wednesday Addams, initially captivated audiences with its unique blend of humour and mystery. Ortega has hinted that the new season will scale up, with a shift towards more horror and less romance.

The ensemble cast from the first season, including Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams and Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, also featured Thora Birch, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, and others, adding depth and variety to the beloved franchise. Additionally, reports in late December suggest that Netflix is considering expanding this universe further with a spinoff series focusing on Uncle Fester.

Beyond his new role in Wednesday, Steve Buscemi has recently directed the indie drama The Listener starring Tessa Thompson and starred alongside Daniel Radcliffe in the TBS anthology comedy Miracle Workers. His performance in Boardwalk Empire garnered him a Golden Globe Award, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and two Emmy nominations.
