Star Wars Villainous Board Game Lets Players Become Darth Vader, General Grievous, And More

Disney Villainous: The Worst Takes All, an award-winning board game by Ravensburger, places players in the roles of classic Disney villains such as Maleficent and Captain Hook. This approach of putting players on the side of the antagonists is intriguing, and is ripe for variations based on other franchises. In 2020, there was Marvel Villainous: Infinite Power, which lets players become Thanos, Ultron, and more. This August, Star Wars Villainous: Power of the Dark Side will be released and will feature Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, Asajj Ventress, General Grievous, and Moff Gideon as playable characters.

What is unique about the Villainous series of board games is that the characters from each version aren’t interchangeable. This means that players can’t simply use Darth Vader in the Disney version, or Maleficent in the Star Wars version. This is because each version has its own unique mechanics inspired by the lore and stories of the characters.

In the case of Star Wars Villainous, General Grievous is trying to collect lightsabers, and Moff Gideon is trying to capture Grogu, for instance. Yes, each villain has their own unique goals that they want to achieve over the course of the game. Of course, there will be a lot of art and iconographies from the Star Wars franchise, enough to satisfy fans of the franchise.

Star Wars Villainous: Power of the Dark Side is a game for 2 to 4 players, and will be priced at US$39.99. It will be released this August, so for now, players can play the Disney version or the Marvel version as a way to warm up before taking to the stars.
