Since Disney’s acquisition of the Star Wars franchise, I’ve been wondering what that could mean for the future of Star Wars games. So here we have it, Star Wars: Attack Squadrons, an online free-to-play multiplayer space combat game. Well, here’s the first online game that’s on its way. As an old time LucasArts’ X-Wing and TIE Fighter fan from the early days, I am crazy excited about this one.

According to the site, players will be able to “engage in high-velocity 16 player dogfights in fabled Star Wars locations”, coupled with 3 different gameplay modes. Ships can be customized and modeled to each player’s liking, nice touch.

For now, we can only hope the Force is strong with this one, and oh, Go sign up for the closed beta now!
