For those wondering when Squid Game Season 2 will come out, you won’t have to wait too much longer. Netflix announced in a letter to shareholders that the hit k-drama series would be returning this year, in addition to other anticipated and returning shows like Emily In Paris, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Bridgerton.
Squid Game last left off with the conclusion of the 33rd Squid Game and winner Gi-Hun preparing to go to Los Angeles to visit his daughter, but turning back at the last moment when he sees the same recruiter who played ddakji with him and calls the number, only to be told not to get involved.
Creator Hwang Dong-Hyuk previously revealed the second season’s plot, which “will be the story of Seong Gi Hun unraveling [the mysteries of the organization behind the game],” he shared. “The overarching plotline of Season 2 will be the story of the people that Gi- Hun meets and the people he chases after.” Talks are underway for a possible third season.
Season 2 will see a cast of new characters with Yim Si-wan (Unlocked), Kang Ha-neul (The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure), Park Gyu-young (Sweet Home, Celebrity), and more added to the show’s roster, though character details are currently unknown.
Returning characters include Gong Yoo returning as the Recruiter, Lee Jung-Jae as Gi-Hun, Lee Byung-hun reprising his role as Hwang Im-Ho (Front Man) and Wi Ha-jun as Hwang Jun-Ho, the Front Man’s estranged brother.
Squid Game had more than 142 million viewers when it was first released in 2021, and has since gone on to win Emmys and even spawned a somewhat controversial reality show on Netflix. The second season will premiere sometime in 2024.
