One of the biggest successes on Netflix is 2021’s Squid Game, where classic childhood games meet adult horror in a drama that goes to show just how far people can push themselves when everything’s on the line. The critical reception has naturally built momentum for more, and while the creator has been hinting at more to come, Netflix has confirmed Season 2 of Squid Game via its official Twitter account.
The announcement also came with a message from series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk, which contains certain elements for fans to look forward to, including the return of Lee Jung-jae’s Seong Gi-hun.
“It took 12 years to bring the first seasons of Squid Game to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever. As the writer, director, and producer of Squid Game, a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show,” he wrote.
“And now, Gi-hun returns. The Front Man returns. Season 2 is coming. The man in the suit with ddakji might be back. You’ll also be introduced to Young-hee’s boyfriend, Cheol-su. Join us once more for a whole new round.”
It comes as no surprise that we will be getting Season 2 of Squid Game, considering it is the biggest Netflix launch ever. The show was a cultural phenomenon, and it looks set to continue in the same vein whenever the new season arrives. We can only hope we are ready for whatever new horrors await.
