Sony Earmarks PC Market for $300 Million Profit In 2022

The era of the PlayStation 5 has ushered in even more success for Sony Interactive Entertainment, and with the launch of the new PlayStation Plus programme, the corporation is looking at even more profit in the near future. However, there is the small matter of the PC market, and Sony has indicated that it is set to bring in even more money, about US$300 million more.

This was revealed in the latest business segment briefing for investors and shareholders, where Sony’s net sales from titles on PC were shown. Games like Horizon Zero Dawn, Days Gone, and God of War have already raked in US$80 million for Sony in the last fiscal year, which ended on 31 March 2022.

That will only increase as Sony place more focus on the PC market moving forward, with investors told to expect at least US$300 million in net sales in the coming fiscal year, which will conclude on 31 March 2023.

Needless to say, that is huge growth, especially considering the fact that such first-party titles have only recently moved to the PC space. There is no visibility beyond the upcoming Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection heading to PC, so perhaps Sony has some aces up their sleeves for the platform with more games coming to PC earlier than expected.

This could also be due to the impending acquisition of Bungie by Sony. The studio has a considerable amount of reach and market share in the PC space thanks to the Destiny series, and adding its portfolio to Sony’s business will only help bolster the numbers. A shift towards more live service titles is also in the making, so either way, Sony wants to make more money, and they are doing their best in every way.
