‘Sonic: The Hedgehog’ Producer Wants Franchise To Be Avengers-Level Event Films

The Sonic The Hedgehog films have been a surprise hit, and producer Toby Ascher has big ambitions for the future of the film franchise. Ascher intends the films to feel like a cinematic universe, with the shows focusing on a smaller cast of characters and saving the epic moments for the films.

To date, there have been two Sonic the Hedgehog films, with a third set to premiere on 26 December 2024, and a spinoff TV series about fiery sidekick Knuckles dropping this month. With Sonic 3 introducing antagonist Shadow, who is at odds with Sonic, the ‘cinematic’ universe grows larger.

“We knew that, with Shadow coming into Sonic 3 and some of the bigger things that we want to do, the Sonic franchise on the movie side is going to be these Avengers-level events. They’re going to be these big, exciting stories that have a lot of different characters,” teased Ascher about the third movie and the future of the franchise.

Whether they’ll be able to deliver on the continual hype they’re teasing for the franchise remains to be seen, and Sonic 3 will set its cinematic universe plans into motion.
