‘The Batman: Part II’ Casts Bryan Tyree Henry, Sebastian Koch, Scarlett Johansson & Sebastian Stan

Gotham City will be a homecoming for some, and a new venture for others. Following earlier news that Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) alumni Sebastian Stan (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) were circling The Batman: Part II, director Matt Reeves confirmed that the pair is now part of the cast.

The Batman: Part II

The announcement was unveiled across a series of social media posts, starting with a gif of Johansson in 2013’s Under the Skin with the caption “Next exit, Gotham… Welcome”. No details on her character were shared, but Stan is set to play Harvey Dent, while German actor Sebastian Koch is rumoured to play his dad, Christopher Dent. Rounding out the list is Brian Tyree Henry (Eternals), whose role is also undisclosed.

Alongside Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne / Batman, returning faces in the sequel include Jeffrey Wright (Angels in America) as Jim Gordon from the Gotham Police Department, Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings) as Bruce’s butler Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell (Minority Report) as Oz Cobb / the Penguin, Jayme Lawson (Sinners) as Gotham City Mayor Bella Reál, and Gil Perez-Abraham as Officer Martinez.

The full cast for The Batman: Part II is as follows, confirmed through individual posts:

  • Robert Pattinson as Batman
  • Scarlett Johansson
  • Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent
  • Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon
  • Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth
  • Colin Farrell as the Penguin
  • Jayme Lawson as Gotham City Mayor Bella Reál
  • Gil Perez-Abraham as Officer Martinez
  • Sebastian Koch
  • Brian Tyree Henry

Reeves is directing the film from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin (Terminator: Zero), and also serves as producer with Dylan Clark and Lynn Harris. While it falls under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios banner, The Batman Part II will not officially be part of the newly relaunched DC Universe.

Story-wise, not much else is known about the upcoming feature, but test shots of the Batmobile driving through the snow hint at a winter setting. In a previous interview with Josh Horowitz, Reeves teased that it will focus more on the character of Bruce Wayne since “the first is so focused on Batman”:

“[In] a lot of the other films, which I love, once you get past the origin tale, which we didn’t quite do, but we did something that referred to his origins, then you start telling the Rogues Gallery story and that character’s sort of arc. But I never wanted to lose [Robert Pattinson] at the centre of these stories, and so that is really what we set our aim on.”

The Batman: Part II opens in theatres on 1 October 2027.
