Sam Raimi And Bruce Campbell Are In Talks For A Possible New Evil Dead Movie

Released in 1981, Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead was a hit with both audiences and critics alike that it spawned off a whole franchise, resulting in three seasons of Ash vs Evil Dead, two film sequels, a remake, and a video game.

Yet no matter how much content is given to fans, it looks like it will never be enough. It seems director Sam Raimi feels the same way as he has recently confirmed that he is more than willing to direct a new film for the Evil Dead franchise

“I’d love to make another one. I don’t think TV is in its future but we’re talking about – Bruce, Rob, and myself – one or two different ways to go for the next movie,” Raimi said in an interview with Bloody Disgusting. “We’d like to make another Evil Dead feature and in fact, we’re working on some ideas right now.”

The Evil Dead starred Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams, and told the story of five teens haunted by evil supernatural forces whilst staying in an isolated cabin in the woods.

The big question this time is whether Raimi’s new Evil Dead movie will follow the events of the Ash storyline, or continue the storyline of the 2013 remake. Following the Ash storyline might prove tricky as Campbell has publicly retired from his role as Ash. So Raimi will have to find a new actor to play Ash, or maybe write a movie focusing on Ash’s daughter, Brandy.

Unlike Harrison Ford, Campbell is more than okay with a new actor taking on the role of Ash, “I’d be perfectly fine if they find some young Ash, do some new incarnation, let some other poor bastard get covered in blood.”

The next most likely route will be for Fede Alvarez, director of the remake, to continue his series. Though the director has previously stated that he will not be producing any new Evil Dead film unless it was the right story.

Speaking of the remake, Raimi has also confirmed that Alvarez’s remake is a park of the Evil Dead universe, but is not a part of the Bruce Campbell storyline. It’s happening in a “corner of the original universe”.

It seems fans might have to wait a little longer for a new Evil Dead movie but in the meantime, fans of Raimi’s work can check out his latest film Crawl, releasing in theatres on July 11, 2019.
