It seems like Alice will be going through the looking glass once more. Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland has been embraced and taken on many forms throughout the years. First with Disney’s animated and live-action movies and now with Netflix‘s own reimagining of the classic tale as a musical.
Playing Alice in this reimagined Netflix musical is former Disney star Sabrina Carpenter. Netflix’s take on the famous Alice in Wonderland will be given a modern-day twist where the story will take place in a music festival called ‘Wonderland’. According to THR, Carpenter will also be serving as producer.
Other details are still kept under wraps and it’s not yet known if the film will go towards the direction of fantasy like most of its predecessors or lean into something more teen-like. After all, Carpenter did previously act in Netflix’s teen romance film Tall Girl.
Netflix’s teen films have received much love and hate at the same time. To All The Boys I Loved Before, The Kissing Booth and Sierra Burgess Is a Loser have been raved about, criticised and cancelled all within a couple of months of premiering.
Prior to Alice, Carpenter performed on the Mean Girls Broadway musical. Joining her as producers are Leslie Morgenstein (The Sun Is Also A Star) and Elysa Dutton (Everything, Everything). The trio previously worked together on Netflix’s teen dance movie Work It.
