prologue go way back

‘PUBG’ Creator’s Next Project ‘Prologue: Go Wayback!’ Is A Survival Game With No Combat

Brendan Greene, better known as his alias PlayerUnknown, the creator of the titular battle royale genre pioneer PUBG (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds), has announced his next title, Prologue: Go Wayback!, and it’s something completely new.

Launching as an early access title in November, Prologue: Go Wayback! will be the first game by Greene’s new studio, PlayerUnknown Productions, and will be a first-person survival game with no combat, instead focusing on braving the elements.

One of the most ambitious aspects of the upcoming game, however, is that its levels are procedurally generated, meaning everything that players will encounter in the world is unique to every run.

As a survival game, Prologue: Go Wayback! will unsurprisingly focus on realism, requiring the player to navigate via paper maps and a compass instead of the usual in-game HUD elements, traversing the world while dealing with all manner of survival game staples like managing hunger, thirst and warmth, which can be dynamically affected by weather conditions like blizzards and rain.

Aside from surviving the elements, players will also have to juggle activating generators or finding fuses alongside cooking, crafting clothing, or even rebuilding run-down cabins along the way to protect them from the harsh nights. As an early access title, the game will also add more systems along the way as it approaches its full release.

In all, Prologue: Go Wayback! certainly seems like an intriguing project for the studio, and is one to look out for as it enters early access on 20 November 2025.
