Patience has paid off for Dorohedoro fans, and it will continue to do so. Following the premiere of a second season after a six-year hiatus, the cult anime is getting a Season 3, though no release window was announced.
In celebration of the news, director Yuichiro Hayashi, whose credits include the first season of Attack on Titan Final Season, shared a special illustration featuring demon Haru busting out a song for the sequel. An animated music video for Season 2’s opening theme song, “Zettai Must Danmen” by (K)NoW_NAME, was also unveiled:
Adapted from Q Hayashida’s manga of the same name, Dorohedoro follows Caiman, an amnesiac man whose head was transformed into that of a lizard by a sorcerer, and his partner Nikaido as they search for the one responsible for the curse. It debuted in 2000 and built a dedicated following through its unique premise and dark humour, with MAPPA (Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man) helming the anime adaptations for both seasons. The first aired in 2020, while the follow-up recently ended its 11-episode run on 27 May.
Joining Hayashi on the staff roster were composer Hiroshi Seki (Attack on Titan Final Season), character designer Tomohiro Kishi (Attack on Titan: The Last Attack), and 3DCG director Fuminori Nomoto. There’s no word on the new voice actors for Season 3 just yet, but it’s safe to assume that the main Japanese cast will reprise their roles, including Wataru Takagi as Caiman, Reina Kondo as Nikaido, Kenyu Horiuchi as En, Yoshimasa Hosoya as Shin, Yu Kobayashi as Noi, and Koki Uchiyama as Dokuga.
The synopsis for the series reads, “In a city so dismal it’s known only as ‘the Hole,’ a clan of Sorcerers have been plucking people off the streets to use as guinea pigs for atrocious ‘experiments’ in the black arts. In a dark alley, Nikaido found Caiman, a man with a reptile head and a bad case of amnesia. To undo the spell, they’re hunting and killing the Sorcerers in the Hole, hoping that eventually they’ll kill the right one. But when En, the head Sorcerer, gets word of a lizard-man slaughtering his people, he sends a crew of “cleaners” into the Hole, igniting a war between two worlds.”
Season 3 of Dorohedoro has no release date.
