ASUS wow-ed many in 2019 with its ZenBook Pro Duo, which featured not one but two fully functional screens, for better productivity by allowing users to multitask on both the main screen and the ScreenPad Plus.
This time, ASUS is bringing the ScreenPad Plus to its gaming laptop with the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15, ASUS’ first dual-screen gaming laptop. Not only does the ScreenPad Plus function as a second screen, it now comes with an Active Aerodynamic System (AAS) Plus design. This makes the ScreenPad Plus an integral part of the laptop’s cooling system.
With the AAS Plus system lifting the second display up for not only comfortable viewing but also for larger airflow as well. This helps to reduce the strain on the laptop’s internal cooling system. With heat dissipation, the Zephyrus Duo 15 will be able to keep noise levels below 46 dB in Turbo mode, and 43 dB in Performance mode.
Aside from the 15.6-inch main screen, the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 comes with a 14.1-inch ScreenPad Plus panel, the largest second display ever put on a gaming laptop. Its 3840 x 1100 resolution helps to give the screen a high pixel density, allowing it to deliver rich details, crisp text, and flowing lines at a smooth 60 Hz refresh rate.
The large screen helps to ensure that displays are not too small, allowing users to effectively use it for not only content creation, but also for gaming and streaming. The secondary screen can also be used to keep an eye out for important emails, social media, or chat groups that you are currently in while the main screen is used for gaming, watching movies, or other media.
ASUS is currently working with game developers like Techland to optimise their games such as Dying Light 2 for the ScreenPad Plus, through ways such as moving the co-op chat to the ScreenPad Plus, leaving more space on the screen for the actual gameplay. Users will also be able to use the second screen to see real-time stats, build recommendations, and more for games such as League of Legends and Fortnite thanks to a collaboration between ASUS and Overwolf.
It is no secret that displays play a huge part in gaming, especially for those playing first-person shooter games such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive or Overwatch. To ensure that the Zephyrus Duo 15 will be suited to your individual needs, ROG is offering customers the choice of either an ultrafast 300Hz, 3ms gaming panel or a high-resolution 4K UHD display.
Gaming enthusiasts who wish to have a serious competitive edge over their opponents can go with the 300Hz display with its ultra-high refresh rate that makes fast-paced movements feel super smooth. Its 3ms response time helps to make sure the visuals on screen are crisp and blur-free for ultra-precise target tracking.
On the other hand, the 4K UHD display will be more suitable for those who prefer a high-resolution experience. With its wide gamut and high colour accuracy, this particular display will be suited for gamers who are also content creators.
Of course, what will a gaming laptop be without a top-tier GPU to keep you on the top of your game. The Zephyrus Duo 15 will come with the new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER, which when coupled with the laptop’s cooling system and ROG Boost can reach speeds of up to 1330 MHz in Turbo mode.
The Zephyrus Duo 15 is also running on the new 8-core 10th generation Intel i9 CPU. That along with the ability to upgrade your memory up to 48 GB means the laptop will be more than ready for some heavy-duty multitasking across multiple displays.
You would think with all that gaming prowess and its double screen that the Zephyrus Duo 15 will be huge and weigh a ton, but in fact, it is just 20.9 mm thin and weighs only 2.4 kg. It also features a resilient and sleek-looking magnesium-aluminide chassis.
You can also bring the laptop with you on the go as it features a high capacity 90Wh battery. The laptop can also be charged via USB Power Delivery, so users can take care of lighter work with a 65W USB-C adapter. What’s more, if you find yourself running low on battery with no power sockets in sight, you can always charge the laptop with a compatible USB power pack.
Details on when the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 will be released as well as how much it will cost will be announced at a later date.
