Pokemon Sword And Shield To Feature Multiplayer Raid Battles And New Dynamax Game Mechanic

During a recent Pokémon Sword and Shield Direct, Nintendo has released more details of their upcoming game, including new pokémon, new areas to explore, and new gameplay mechanics.

Though we only got a look at a few of the newly created Pokémon for Sword and Shield, they were enough to get us excited for the rest of the cast. These new Pokémons include the adorable Sheep Pokémon Wooloo, the Flowering Pokémon Gossifleur which evolves into the Cotton Bloom Pokémon Eldegoss, the tough-looking Bite Pokémon Drednaw which is said to have a mean bite, and the Raven Pokémon Corviknight which taxis players to towns they have visited before.

Aside from these new Pokémon, players will also be able to catch Pokémon from previous generations.

These Pokémons can be found in a new zone simply called the Wild Area where players can battle wild Pokémon, and link up with other players to take part in Max Raid Battles. According to Nintendo, there are certain Pokémon that can only be caught in Max Raid Battles so we suggest you take part in these Max Raid Battles if you are looking to complete your Pokédex.

There is also a new gameplay mechanic unique to Pokémon Sword and Shield, called Dynamax which Nintendo hopes will add “all-new strategies to Pokémon battles”. It allows your Pokémon to become a literal giant, towering over you as they battle it out with other Pokémon. Not only will their size increase, but their powers as well, making Dynamax a move that might help players on the brink of certain defeat turn the tide of the battle around. However, do note that Dynamax can only be used once per battle, and will last for three turns. So choose wisely when to trigger it.

We were also introduced to the game’s legendaries, the sword-wielding Zacian and the shield-bearing Zamazenta. We wonder how these legendaries will play into the game’s lore. Guess we can only wait for the release of Pokémon Sword and Shield to find out.
