Six years after its second chapter, The Angry Birds Movie 3 has landed a new distributor in Paramount Pictures, with the video game movie threequel set for theatrical release on 29 January 2027.
With the first two films in the franchise distributed by Sony Pictures, Paramount’s third chapter will see the return of game creator Rovio Entertainment and IP owner SEGA as its producers, alongside its cast of Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Rachel Bloom and Danny McBride, who will reprise their roles as Red, Chuck, Silver and Bomb respectively.

“We’re very excited to be partnering with Paramount Pictures and extremely proud of our incredible cast,” said returning producer John Cohen in a statement to the media, “Not only do we have Jason, Josh, Rachel and Danny returning to voice their fantastic characters, but they’re surrounded by an all-star ensemble of comedic talent. These are some of the funniest people out there today, and we’re so thrilled to have them all on board.”
Alongside its returning cast, The Angry Birds Movie 3 will introduce high-profile newcomers to its voice cast, including Emma Myers (Wednesday, A Minecraft Movie), Keke Palmer (Nope), Tim Robinson (Scream VI) and Lily James (Baby Driver, Cinderella). The third installment will be directed by John Rice, who helmed the first movie, with its screenplay written by Thurop Van Orman, who directed the 2019 sequel.

“Angry Birds transcends mediums and has been embraced and celebrated the world over,” added President of Worldwide Marketing & Distribution at Paramount Pictures Marc Weinstock, “We couldn’t be happier to be partnering with Sega/Rovio and these other great partners to bring this latest installment, featuring an incredible voice cast, to big screens everywhere.”
The Angry Birds film franchise has seen its ups and downs, with the original 2016 adaptation of the popular 2009 mobile game grossing US$352 million at the global box office while its 2019 sequel fell short of its predecessor’s high benchmark and only earned US$147.8 million globally, leaving it up to Paramount’s third installment to bring the film franchise back to its former glory.
This news follows the recent success of several video game film adaptations, including Warner Bros’ A Minecraft Movie, which opened to a jaw-dropping US$301 million globally, as well as 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which saw phenomenal success by earning US$1.248 billion less than two months after release. Paramount and Sega are no strangers to such success, with its Sonic The Hedgehog film franchise surpassing the US$1 billion mark in global box office. With such stiff competition, only time will tell if The Angry Birds Movie 3 can follow in these footsteps or even soar above the success of its peers.
The Angry Birds Movie 3 will launch in theatres on 29 January 2027.
