As Netflix’s Terminator Zero anime’s release date draws nearer, the animated series is gearing up for action, announcing its full voice cast, including Ahsoka star Rosario Dawson, Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machina), André Holland (Moonlight), and Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale), joining Justified star Timothy Olyphant.
Set in 1997 Tokyo, scientist Malcolm Lee works to launch a new AI system, Kokoro, designed to compete with Skynet’s impending attack on humanity, as a soldier is sent back in time to change the fate of humanity and stop Malcolm from launching Kokoro, as the duo are hunted by an unrelenting assassin from the future.
Dawson voices the ethereal AI system Kokoro, Japan’s answer to Skynet, which Malcolm (Holland), a genius computer programmer and father of three, attempts to bring online, but grapples with the dilemma of saving humanity, or dooming it.
And on the side of the resistance, Sonoya Mizuno voices Eiko, a resistance fighter sent back in time from post-Judgement Day 2022 to stop Malcolm from launching Kokoro, while fending off the Terminator (Olyphant), an assassin sent to hunt them down.
Ann Dowd lends her voice to mysterious figure The Prophet, described as the philosophical guide for the human resistance, who is shown interacting with Eiko, and it’s likely that her character will be involved in the larger plot in a big way.
The series, produced by Haikyu!! The Movie: The Dumpster Battle studio Production I.G., will run for eight episodes and premieres on 29 August, Terminator 2’s Judgement Day.
