Netflix’s ‘One Piece’ Season 2 Casts Dr. Kureha & Dr. Hiriluk, Won’t Include Beloved Arabasta Arc

The first season of Netflix’s One Piece series deviated from the original manga by Eiichiro Oda, so it’s no surprise that Season 2 will go down the same path. While fans are looking forward to the live-action reimagination of the beloved Arabasta Arc, the manga creator has confirmed that it won’t be included in the upcoming outing.

Taking to X/Twitter, Oda revealed the storylines that Season 2 will cover in a letter announcing the start of filming. “Yes, the live-action One Piece is currently in production, with filming well underway,” it reads. “The story will cover Loguetown, Reverse Mountain (Twin Cape), Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, and Drum Island! Think about it. Imagine how much it’ll cost!”.

Separately, the production also dropped the first batch of casting news, locking in two more actors for key roles in its sophomore outing. Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy, Futurama) and Mark Harelik (Presumed Innocent, 42) have been tapped to play Dr. Kureha & Dr. Hiriluk respectively, after Jamie Lee Curtis was unable to play the former role due to schedule conflicts.

The pair are the latest additions to the list of series newcomers, following the cast reveal for Baroque Works agents, as well as Crocus, Dorry, and Brogy. Curtis, a One Piece fan herself, was originally the choice pick for Dr. Kureha, with the script tailored for her specifically. In the manga, Dr. Kureha was introduced alongside Chopper, whose casting remains unknown, during the Straw Hats Pirates’ search for a doctor when Nami falls ill after the events of the Little Garden arc. The duo agrees to help, with Dr. Hiriluk lending his expertise as well.

As for returning members, Season 2 of One Piece sees Ilia Isorelys Paulino, Jeff Ward, and Michael Dorman reprising their respective roles of Alvida, Buggy, and Gold Roger, joining Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, Mackenyu as ZoroEmily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. A release date has yet to be set.

On the anime front, WIT Studio, the powerhouse behind Spy x Family and the Attack on Titan‘s first three seasons, has revealed the concept art for its “fresh new remake” of the long-running show. The Netflix show, titled The One Piece, is set to follow the same story as the source material, starting with the East Blue Saga.
