Netflix’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Prequel Series Premieres On August 30

The cult puppet-animated high fantasy film The Dark Crystal will get a prequel series coming to streaming giant Netflix. The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will premiere on August 30.

This story predates the events of the classic 1982 film which was directed by Jim Henson. This time, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will be directed by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk, The Transporter).

Set several years before the original movie, the story follows three young Gefling heroes — Rian, Brea and Deet — as they journey to attempt to heal the dying world of Thra by restoring the damaged Crystal of Truth. At the same time, they will have to do battle with the nefarious Skeksis.

Playing as Rian, Brea and Deet respectively will be Taron Egerton (Kingsman), Anya Taylor-Joy (The New Mutants), and Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones).

They will be part of a star-studded cast, which includes the likes of Helena Bonham Carter (Harry Potter), Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones, The Hunger Games), Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter, Star Trek: Discovery), and Mark Strong (Shazam!, Kingsman).
