‘Mortal Kombat 2’ Film Sets October 2025 Release

Warner Bros. has set the premiere date for Mortal Kombat 2 as 24 October 2025, as per Variety. This eagerly awaited sequel to the 2021 reboot will be exclusively shown in theatres, including IMAX screens, diverging from the simultaneous streaming and theatrical release that characterised its predecessor during the pandemic.

Directed by Simon McQuoid (who also directed the 2021 reboot) and written by Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight), Mortal Kombat 2 wrapped filming in January. The film’s production has entered the post-production phase, ensuring that it delivers on the high expectations set by the franchise’s loyal fan base.

The sequel boasts a mix of returning actors and notable newcomers, enriching the dynamic ensemble. The returning cast, which consists of Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Joe Taslim as Noob Saibot, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion reprise their roles.

Mortal Kombat 2 promises to expand the universe with new actors and characters from the game, including Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, Damon Herriman as Quan Chi, CJ. Bloomfield as Baraka, and others who are set to bring fresh energy to the saga.

The announcement of the release date marks a significant milestone for the franchise, signalling Warner Bros.’ confidence in the film’s potential to captivate audiences without the safety net of digital streaming. This strategic move highlights the industry’s gradual shift back to a traditional theatrical model post-pandemic.
