It appears that we may finally be getting a proper sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man.
According to Reddit user u/v17447377, the second instalment to the critically-acclaimed web-slinging action-adventure game by Insomniac Games could release sometime in Holiday 2021, with a potential reveal by Sony later this year.

The user then proceeded to explain that the sequel could be set once more in Manhattan, albeit with additional areas for Spider-Man to explore, such as Queens and Brooklyn.
Details on the story itself are “sparse”, but the user claims they heard that “cloning” could be a huge theme in the story. There is also talk about a greater Marvel Universe being a possible new inclusion as well (Marvel’s Avengers, anyone?)
The cast of characters for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 could include the return of supporting characters such as “Flash Thompson, Harry Osborn, Ben Urich, Aaron Davis, Eddie Brock and more.” What’s even more intriguing is that the user mentioned the potential inclusion of new Spidey villains in “Venom, Green Goblin, Carnage Mysterio, the Lizard, Cardiac and a few more.” Just imagine how awesome some of these boss fights could be.

Gameplay looks to be a more fleshed-out version of the one seen in Marvel’s Spider-Man. Arguably the most striking change would be the inclusion of Miles Morales as a playable character in his own “dedicated sections”, with “slightly different powers and fighting style”. To jog your memory a bit, Miles Morales was introduced in the first game, and was also shown to possess similar powers to Peter Parker after being bitten by a radioactive spider at Oscorp.

Other interesting new gameplay features include a “Diablo-esque dungeon mechanic”, which adds a bit more unpredictability to random encounters in the game, the user claimed. Finally, the “major engine work” that Insomniac is working on “is adopting more technological advances”, which indicate that it will most likely be released as a PlayStation 5 title.
While all this is speculative information for now, u/v17447377’s validity as a leaker can be alluded to him leaking Capcom’s Resident Evil 3 last year. But of course, it’s still best to take a grain of salt for the time being.
