Marvel Animation has released the official trailer for What If…? Season 3, sparking excitement with a line-up of unexpected twists and new character mash-ups. The trailer showcases Storm from X-Men as the Goddess of Thunder, giant Gundam-sized Captain America, and Shang-Chi as a cowboy, among other surprising scenarios.
Set to premiere on Disney+ starting 22 December, What If…? Season 3 promises a blend of fresh storylines and fan-favourite characters. The animated series is known for its imaginative takes on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, reimagining famous heroes in alternate realities. This final season will consist of eight episodes, each exploring a unique “what if” scenario.
One of the highlights from the trailer is Alison Sealy Smith’s portrayal of Storm as the Goddess of Thunder, a powerful blend of Thor and the weather-manipulating mutant. This season also introduces a Western theme featuring Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi and Kathryn Hahn returning as Agatha Harkness after a successful stint in Agatha All Along.
The Watcher, voiced by Jeffrey Wright, returns to guide the audience through these multidimensional adventures in the series. The season is set to explore more profound aspects of its characters, such as Captain America/Sam Wilson, The Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes, and Hulk/Bruce Banner.
The upcoming episodes also include a unique anime-inspired episode titled Go-Avengers: Heroes of the Gamma War, where Avengers control mechs to battle Mega-Hulk monsters. This episode will feature a stellar cast including Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson and Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight.
What If…? Season 3’s excitement extends beyond its final season, as Marvel has announced a spinoff series, Marvel Zombies, set to debut in October 2025. This new series will build on the zombie-themed episode from Season 1 and will include characters such as Ms. Marvel, Yelena Belova, and Kate Bishop fighting zombified versions of Marvel heroes.
What If…? Season 3 is part of Phase 5 of the MCU, providing fans with a creative and thrilling exploration of the alternate possibilities within the Marvel Universe. Each episode promises to deliver its own set of surprises, with daily releases that will keep fans hooked through the holiday season.
