Lucasfilm Fires The Mandalorian Star Gina Carano Over “Abhorrent” Social Media Posts

Guess Gina Carano won’t be making an appearance in the later seasons of The Mandalorian on Disney+. The 38-year-old mixed martial arts artist turned actress who plays Cara Dune has been fired for sharing controversial social media posts.

Fans of the show have been calling on her removal for months after the actress expressed transphobic views, denied the validity of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and included an anti-Semitic post comparing the current political climate to Nazi Germany and the holocaust.

The hashtag #FireGinaCarano trended on Twitter on Wednesday night and Lucasfilm finally issued a statement regarding her removal from the hit Disney+ TV series.

Gina Carano

“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” a Lucasfilm spokesperson said via THR. “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Carano’s Cara Dune first made her appearance in The Mandalorian Season 1 episode ‘Sanctuary’, and grew into a fan-favourite across the first season. The actress was rumoured to star in a new upcoming Star Wars series titled Rangers of The New Republic but it seems like that is out of the books now.
