Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have revealed during their RGG Studio Summit that Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will launch on 26 January 2024. The game will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows, and Steam.
In addition, two new trailers have dropped, showcasing the cast and the setting for the game.
The story trailer begins with a quirky recap of protagonist Ichiban Kasuga’s story in Yakuza: Like a Dragon, before revealing that Ichiban is in Hawaii to find his long-lost mother. The trailer also drops another bombshell — Kazuma Kiryu, the franchise star up until Yakuza: Like a Dragon, has been diagnosed with cancer. As the trailer concludes, Kiryu fittingly tells Ichiban: “I’ll take on the yakuza’s past. But you… I want you to handle their future.”
That said, Kiryu will still be showing up in the spin-off game Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, set to be released on 9 November 2023.
Meanwhile, the new Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth gameplay trailer shows off the various locales, combat mechanics and minigames that players will be able to experience in the game. Dual protagonists Ichiban and Kiryu will be joined by a sprawling cast of new and old faces, including fan-favourite Goro Majima.
Shinichi Tsutsumi, Ken Yasuda, and Kiichi Nakai will be reprising their roles as Jo Sawashiro, Yu Nanba, and Masumi Arakawa respectively. New additions to the cast include Ryo Narita (Belle), portraying a wheelchair-bound boy named Eiji Mitamura who finds himself in Ichiban’s care; Satoru Iguchi (The Last 10 Years) as Eric Tomizawa, a member from a rival gang who ends up joining Ichiban’s crew; and Hiroki Hasegawa (Shin Godzilla) as Yakuza syndicate leader Masataka Ebina.
Visitors to Tokyo Game Show 2023, which will be held 21–24 September, will be able to play demos of both Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Like a Dragon Gaiden. The booth will have photo spots and a “Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio Smartphone Case and Strap” free gift (while stocks last) for all who try out either of the game demos.
