What’s old is new again, and there’s no better recent example of this than Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. The highly-anticipated sequel to Warhorse Studio’s medieval Europe action role-playing game (RPG) has become a massive hit at launch, selling one million copies in its first 24 hours. In comparison, the first game sold half a million copies in its first week.

On Steam, the numbers paint the same success story. The title peaked at 159,351 concurrent players, more than 1.5 times its predecessor’s highest concurrent player count in 2018 at 96,069. It should also be noted the actual figure will be higher, since the game launched on both console and PC.
“Over a million of you have stepped into our world. We’re beyond grateful for your support — thank you for making #KCD2 a triumph,” reads the studio’s milestone announcement post on X/Twitter.
Set in early 15th-century Bohemia (current-day Czech Republic), then part of Lands of the Bohemian Crown and the Holy Roman Empire, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 picks up directly after the events of the first game and sees Henry, a blacksmith’s son, fighting against Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund and his allies in the “turmoil of a civil war”. It will conclude the knight’s story, with its combat elements, wry humour, detailed RPG mechanics, and historical immersion garnering widespread praise.
The impressive showing is a strong start to what would undoubtedly be a stacked month for gaming enthusiasts. Apart from Warhorse’s latest jaunt, February will debut the likes of Civilization VII, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.
