Kathryn Hahn is circling yet another villainous role, with the Agatha All Along star in talks to join Disney’s live-action Tangled movie as the evil Mother Gothel.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the 52-year-old joins fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe star Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) as hopefuls for the role, although fans had been fan-casting Hahn for the role due to her impressive performance as Agatha Harkness, the trickster enchantress who causes all sorts of trouble for everyone around her, in 2021’s WandaVision and its 2024 spin-off Agatha All Along.
Her past performance makes her a good fit for the role of Gothel, who abducts Rapunzel to make use of her magical hair for herself, masquerading under the guise of a loving step-mother, with the vocal role in the original 2010 animated film being played by actress and singer Donna Murphy.

This news also comes after the confirmation of the two main leads of the film, with Teagan Croft (Titans) and Milo Manheim (Zombies) landing the parts of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, respectively. Tangled will be directed by The Greatest Showman’s Michael Gracey, with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Thor: Love and Thunder) and Kristin Burr (Cruella) attached as writer and producer, respectively.
Based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, Tangled centres on the magically long-haired Rapunzel (played by Mandy Moore in the 2010 original), who spends her entire life locked in a tower by her evil step-mother, but is eventually rescued by an outlaw named Flynn Rider (originally voiced by Zachary Levi), with the pair eventually falling in love. The original film would go on to garner over US$590 million worldwide and receive a 2012 short film, Tangled Ever After, alongside a 2017 Disney Channel series, Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure, which ran for three seasons.
