Disney has found the starring leads for Tangled, the upcoming live-action adaptation of its 2010 animated film, tapping Teagan Croft (Titans) and Milo Manheim (Zombies) for the parts of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, respectively.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the selection was made after an extensive search for the project’s leads in both the United States and the United Kingdom, with the finalists screen tested last December.
First reported to be in early development back in December 2024, Tangled will be the latest in a long line of classic animated movies getting the live-action treatment, following 2025’s Lilo & Stitch and Snow White, 2020’s Mulan, and 2017’s Beauty and the Beast. The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey will helm the adaptation, with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Thor: Love and Thunder) penning its script and Kristin Burr (Cruella) producing, although no release window has been announced for the project as of yet.
The original 2010 animated film told the tale of Rapunzel, a princess with magic long hair, who gets rescued from her secluded tower by the charming rogue Flynn Rider, with Mandy Moore (The Princess Diaries) and Zachary Levi (Shazam!) portraying their respective voice parts. The film would go on to garner over US$590 million worldwide and receive a 2012 short film, Tangled Ever After, alongside a 2017 Disney Channel series, Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure, which ran for three seasons.

The live-action adaptation has certainly been put through its paces, initially being put on hold in April 2025 due to the box office flop of Snow White, before production began again in October. Back then, reports arose that Avengers star Scarlett Johansson was circling the role of Mother Gothel, voiced by actress and singer Donna Murphy in the original, although no confirmation on the casting has been announced since.
With the announcement of its leading duo, Tangled looks set to be a promising, but most importantly, faithful live-action adaptation of the classic animated love story, although that still remains to be seen until a proper trailer gets released. It’s not the only live-action film on Disney’s plate, too, as Moana, which stars newcomer Catherine Laga‘aia as the titular princess and Dwayne Johnson reprising his role as Maui, is set to hit theatres on 10 July 2026.
