The first glimpse into Joker 2 introduces Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn and offers a sneak peek at the film’s musical elements that have been widely speculated. This sequel unfolds nearly five years after the original Joker, continuing the saga of Arthur Fleck, now a patient at Arkham Asylum. The trailer suggests that his confinement is temporary, hinting at his imminent return to Gotham City’s limelight and the divisive public opinion on his release.

Unlike previous portrayals of Harley Quinn as Joker’s psychiatrist, Joker: Folie à Deux presents her as a fellow inmate at Arkham, showcasing their tumultuous relationship’s impact on Gotham through criminal endeavours and their dynamic musical performances. The trailer features the 1965 Hal David and Burt Bacharach classic What the World Needs Now Is Love, hinting at the film’s musical direction while maintaining the suspense over the full musical lineup.

With a cast including Catherine Keener (Get Out), Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2), and Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin), Joker: Folie à Deux promises a fresh take on the comic book film genre. The film is poised to be a unique entry in the ever-expanding landscape, with its blend of drama, music, and chaos marking it as a must-watch.

Joker: Folie à Deux is set to open in cinemas on 4 October.
