‘It’ HBO Max Prequel Series ‘Welcome to Derry’ Finds Showrunners

Welcome to Derry, a prequel series to the movie franchise It, has found its showrunners! The series based on Stephen King’s iconic 1986 horror novel will be spearheaded by duo Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane.

Fuchs previously served as co-producer on It: Chapter Two and wrote films like Wonder Woman, Pan and I Still See You. On the other hand, Kane has executive produced and written multiple episodes of acclaimed series like Fringe, Black Sails, Lodge 49 and Tokyo Vice.

Fuchs wrote the Welcome to Derry pilot script based on a story from the sibling filmmaking team Andy and Barbara Muschietti. Andy directed It: Chapter One and It: Chapter Two whilst Barbara produced both films. Andy is reportedly directing the first episode of the series too.

Welcome to Derry was first announced in March 2022. Though not much is known about the plot of the series yet, the film is expected to explore the history of Derry, the town in which Pennywise the Clown has terrorised all these years.

As revealed in the sequel movie, Pennywise first arrived in Derry in 1715 via an asteroid. Since then, Pennywise reemerges every 27 years to terrorize the children of Derry. With hundreds of years of town history to explore, the series has a lot of stories to explore.

No release date has been announced for Welcome to Derry.
