Singapore seems to be a popular location for Hong Kong actors to look for a new home. Late last year we saw veteran Hong Kong actor Benz Hui settling down in his new Yishun estate, and now it seems that another Hong Kong actor has his sights set on this little red dot.
First reported by property site Edgeprop, Ip Man star Donnie Yen and his wife Cissy Wang were apparently in Singapore around late September but the pair were not here for a normal holiday. Instead, the couple were reportedly “actively looking for a value buy” around the price range of S$5 to S$10 million.
A fairly conservative amount considering James Dyson, the founder of the famous electronics brand, bought both a S$100 million penthouse in Tanjong Pagar, and a S$45 million bungalow in Bukit Timah.
According to a property agent, Yen and Wang were reportedly checking out high-end condominiums including The Oliv on Balmoral Road, Bishopsgate Residences at the Bishopgate neighbourhood, Nouvel 18 on Anderson Road, and South Beach Residences on Beach Road.
It is not known yet if the current protests in Hong Kong were what prompted the celebrity couple to fly to Singapore to check out the property market here. Though it seems regardless of protests, Singapore seems to be a popular spot for Hong Kong buyers to purchase property, be it as an investment or for their personal use, with 48 and 78 non-landed homes in Singapore being snapped by Hong Kong buyers in 2018 and 2017 respectively.
Yen is also known to be a doting husband to Wang. He bought Wang a HK$135 million (S$23.8) million home in Mount Davis Road, Hong Kong after the pair renewed their wedding vows. In August, Yen also made an Instagram post where he expressed his deep gratitude to his wife for their 16 years of marriage. Could this new Singapore property perhaps be another gift to his lucky wife?
Donnie Yen is famous among Singaporeans for his portrayal of Ip Man, which started with 2008 film of the same name. The fourth instalment in the franchise will be releasing on December 20, 2019. He is also known for starring as Chirrut Imwe in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
