Here Are 5 Moments That Made A Mark In Singapore’s Twitch Community In 2022

As the world says goodbye to 2022, the Singapore Twitch community continues to withstand the test of time (and significant world events). With the world opening up slowly, the online live-stream platform has also evolved accordingly, resulting in even more varied forms of content popping up on the service.

If you still have no idea what Twitch is about, fret not, even Gordon Ramsay needed some help:

For most folks on the Internet, Twitch remains one of the best platforms to catch a good mix of entertainment and chaos all in one place. On paper, the global community spent 21 billion hours watching 223,000 different categories on Twitch in 2022.

Even our own Twitch channel made it past a full year of broadcast as we brought the geek community to many awesome places. But it does pale in comparison to some of these momentous events that have happened in the Singapore Twitch community.

Twitch Rivals: Streamer Chef

One would imagine that after being stuck at home some streamers might have picked up some skills to help them stay fed. But, we learned that the reverse was more accurate.

Pitched as a cook-off, Twitch Rivals: Streamer Chef gathered nine Singapore Twitch streamers, in teams of three, to show off their kitchen skills. The ultimate prize went to the team consisting of Sukasblood, Wolfsbanee, and Zumi, but the lead-up to the event spawned great moments as well:

With Rurusama teaching Izcreamz TikTok dance moves in one of the many practice sessions leading up to the main event, it goes to show that key moments in the Twitch space can happen pretty much anytime.

TwitchCon

With travel back on the cards, many streamers made their pilgrimage to TwitchCon to check out…even more streamers in real life. As the key convention celebrating live streaming and video game culture, TwitchCon was held in Amsterdam and San Diego as the world slowly went back to normality.

But, it was not the case for Sukasblood:

Fresh off his Streamer Chef win, Sukasblood charged at a tree with a mighty kick with the Mortal Kombat theme playing in the background. What he did not anticipate was the force of the kick was sufficient to eject his mobile phone from the selfie stick cradle, causing it to land nicely in the Amsterdam river.

@Everyone

Who knew that a successful Twitch community event could arise from a passing joke? If you were to ask Tanggoz how the @everyone event came about at this point, it might be all a blur.

With the help of MooKhoo, @everyone illustrated you don’t really need a big convention to bring the community together.

All you need (in no small part) is precise planning and plenty of elbow grease to bring the event to life. Support from the likes of supercatkei, Debbidooo, and Cheropepero, as well as the community were all key ingredients in pulling off the event.

Twitch Rivals: Super Animal Royale

Staying true to its roots, the next Twitch Rivals event shifted its focus back to video gaming with top-down battle royal shooter, Super Animal Royale pushed to the forefront.

But once again, it was the streamers and the interactions that made tuning in to Twitch even more amazing.

As the last player standing in her team, bings was trapped in a barn with the deadly skunk gas and enemies closing in on her.

With her back against the literal wall, bings parked herself in a corner and continually chugged Health Juice to heal up. And it was more than sufficient to eke out the victory as the rest of the enemy team succumbed to the debilitating effects of the poison skunk gas.

While not the cleanest of victories, a win is still considered a win especially when bragging rights are on the line.

RIP Keyboard

Anyone who has popped into Jambreadmusic‘s streams would know him as a source of comfy vibes and corny dad jokes, but it’s all in good fun. Little did the viewers know that things would take a radical spin after Jambreadmusic got himself a new streaming PC and a less-than-optimal keyboard.

But as per the whole lead-up in the video below, it all paid off in the end.

Jambreadmusic soon found himself rewarded with a whole suite of fancy Logitech gear for his effort. All it took was the right motivation to eke out awesome content before returning to his usual programming.

Even as 2022 draws to a close, there are plenty more highlights to be caught on Twitch. When this article goes live, LeslieNGGG would be on his 12th continuous day of streaming.

His subathon (where the stream timer duration extends with every donation or subscription), which has been ongoing for over 200 hours, is finally coming to an end. In that window, he even brought his community to his friend’s wedding but actually most of that time sleeping the timer away (according to his community).

Who knows what the final week of 2022 might look like, but if you’re like us who is just discovering the wonders of Twitch, do give us a follow on Geek Culture’s Twitch channel as we take geek experiences to the next level!
