HBO’s The Last Of Us Series Casts The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal As Joel

Listen up everyone, HBO’s The Last of Us series has found their Joel.

Based on the acclaimed action-adventure PlayStation video game of the same name, the series will star Pedro Pascal as Joel (via Deadline). Joel is known as a ruthless and cynical smuggler tasked to escort a teen girl across a post-apocalyptic United States. In the journey, the two form a father-daughter relationship.

Bella Ramsey, breakout star from Game Of Thrones is set to star as teen girl Ellie.

Pascal is no stranger to playing a father figure. In 2020, he played the role of unattentive father Maxwell Lord in DC’s Wonder Woman 1984 but most notably, the actor played Din Djarin in Disney+’s hit Star Wars series The Mandalorian.

In The Mandalorian, Pascal’s character becomes responsible for the life of a young child that’s not his own, as they get chased down by the bad guys in a lawless world. If it sounds like something Joel would do, then you’re absolutely right.

Like Ramsey, Pascal too acted in HBO’s popular fantasy series Game of Thrones where he played Oberyn Martell.

The Last of Us series by HBO will see the two Game of Thrones alumni come together again with Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) to pen the script. Mazin also be executive producing with The Last of Us video game writer and creative director Neil Druckmann. Kantemir Balagov (Beanpole) is tapped to direct the pilot.
