Hawkeye Is The First Post-Launch Character In Marvel’s Avengers

Ask, and you shall receive, goes the saying. When Marvel’s Avengers was first revealed, fans noticed that Crystal Dynamics’ lineup of heroes was a little different from what they were used to. Aside from Captain America dying at the beginning of the game, and Ms. Marvel joining the roster as an up-and-comer, one burning question presided in the minds of many: where was Hawkeye?

As it turns out, the iconic marksman will be coming to the game as a post-launch DLC. First revealed at the latest War Table episode that aired this week, Hawkeye will be the first of many post-launch heroes. Heavily inspired by the iconic My Life as a Weapon storyline by Matt Fraction and David Aja in 2012 among other comic books, Hawkeye will also be getting his own character-focused campaign mission.

Gameplay-wise, it looks as though players will be able to mix it up between melee and ranged combat, though we imagine there will be a larger focus on ranged gamplay considering his status as an archer. That said, we won’t be surprised if the game’s skill system allows players to build Hawkeye as a melee character, à la his Ronin alter ego in the comics and the movies.

Oh, and by the way, did we forget to mention that Hawkeye — and all other DLC heroes in the game — will be added free of charge? Yup, you heard us right, these post-launch characters, and other DLC content, will be added at no additional cost to players.

In any case, Hawkeye’s inclusion in Marvel’s Avengers will be the sort of fanservice fans have been hoping for. Speaking of which, the game launches on 4 September for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Google Stadia, with the playable beta dropping from 7 August onwards.
