Marvel’s Avengers PS4 Players To Get Free Upgrade For PS5

While we await the launch of Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel’s Avengers later this year, here’s another reason to be excited about it: it’s also coming to the PlayStation 5. What’s more, players who own it on the PS4 will get the next-gen version of the game for free when the console launches in Holiday 2020.

This update came from an entry by Gary Snethen, Chief Technology Officer at Crystal Dynamics on the PlayStation blog. The entry states that the team has been handed a PS5 development kit, and has been working on a port for the new console “as quickly as possible”, and to push the “limits” on Crystal Dynamics’ patented Foundation engine on the PS5.

These technical upgrades include a constant 60fps at a dynamic 4K resolution, and most likely reduced load times, thanks to the PS5’s usage of an SSD as its storage drive. This only spells a visual treat for players which also plays like a breeze, given how Marvel’s Avengers is already visually stunning in its current-gen iteration.

Additionally, Snethen mentioned the team also aims to capitalise on other new features, such as the new DualSense controller, which possesses enhanced haptic feedback, as well as the new Tempest 3D audio engine.

How exactly that will manifest in the game remains to be seen, but the best part is that players who would already own the PS4 version of Marvel’s Avengers will get to enjoy the PS5 version (when they do eventually get around to owning one) for free.

Things are looking good for Crystal Dynamics and Marvel’s Avengers, which launches on 4 September this year for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Google Stadia.
