Hannah John-Kamen Is Red Sonja In Upcoming Sword and Sorcery Movie

Hannah John-Kamen has been cast as Red Sonja in the upcoming sword-and-sorcery feature film.

Best known as the villain Ghost in Ant-Man and the Wasp, John-Kamen will wield the sword of the comic book fantasy hero in Millennium Film’s untitled feature adaptation directed by Joey Soloway. Soloway also co-wrote the script with Tasha Huo, the screenwriter who is showrunning and executive producing the upcoming Netflix animated Tomb Raider series.

“Hannah is a very talented actress who we’ve been following for years and she IS Red Sonja,” said Soloway (via THR). “Her range, sensibilities, and strength are all qualities we have been looking for and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this journey together.”

Casting Red Sonja has been quite a ride as the film has been long in the works at Millennium Films since 2017. Prior to John-Kamen’s casting, several other names were floated for the role of the iconic heroine, including Megan Fox and Amber Heard. Now that the film has found it’s Red Sonja, things may move at a faster speed.

John-Kamen has a lengthy genre resume, having starred in Game of Thrones and Ready Player One. John-Kamen will soon be seen playing the role of Jill Valentine in the upcoming Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City when it releases on 24 November 2021.

Currently, there is no word when productions will start but Soloway is excited to bring the Marvel Comics creation to life.

“I have loved Red Sonja forever and I feel so honored to help shepherd her story and start this cinematic journey,” said Soloway. “There could not be a greater moment in our world for Red Sonja’s ways of wielding power and her connection with nature and our planet. She is an ancient heroine with an epic calling, and translating that to the screen is a dream come true for me as a filmmaker.”
