Hamilton Movie To Start Streaming Earlier Than Planned This July

A shining light has emerged amidst these trying times as Disney has just announced that it will be releasing Lin Manuel-Miranda’s Hamilton movie on 3 July 2020, a whole year earlier than initially planned.

It was first announced in February this year that a movie version of Hamilton will be coming to theatres in October 2021. However, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Disney has decided to bump the movie up to July 2020, with the film heading straight to Disney+.

“In light of the extraordinary challenges facing our world, this story about leadership, tenacity, hope, love and the power of people to unite against the forces of adversity is both relevant and impactful,” said Bob Iger, Disney’s executive chairman, in a press release. “We are thrilled to bring [the film] to Disney+ on the eve of Independence Day, and we have the brilliant Lin-Manuel Miranda and the team behind Hamilton to thank for allowing us to do so more than a year before planned.”

The Hamilton movie will not be a theatrical adaptation but is instead a live recording of the Broadway show filmed in June 2016, it will feature the original cast in their respective roles. This includes Lin Manuel-Miranda as America’s founding father Alexander Hamilton.

With this, many Hamilton fans who did not manage to catch the original cast on Broadway will finally be able to watch the play right in their own homes. All that they’ll need is a Disney+ account and possibly a VPN.
