‘Good Omens’ Renewed For Third & Final Season

The apocalypse is finally back – Good Omens has been renewed for a third season at Amazon, which will unfortunately be its last.

Based on the novel co-written by Neil Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett, Good Omens follows the close friendship of a fastidious angel and antique book dealer Aziraphale (Michael Sheen), and a serpent demon living on Earth called Crowley (David Tennant). Like yin and yang, they’ve known each other for years, joining forces to stop the end of the world.

Originally intended as a limited series, its first season debuted on Amazon’s Prime Video in 2019. When the show was renewed for a second season, Gaiman revealed that he had hatched the idea of a sequel with Pratchett, way back in 2015.

“I’m so happy finally to be able to finish the story Terry and I plotted in 1989 and in 2006,” said Gaiman in a statement, “Terry was determined that if we made Good Omens for television, we could take the story all the way to the end.”

“Season One was all about averting Armageddon, dangerous prophecies, and the End of the World,” said Gaiman. “Season Two was sweet and gentle, although it may have ended less joyfully than a certain Angel and Demon might have hoped. Now in Season Three, we will deal once more with the end of the world. The plans for Armageddon are going wrong. Only Crowley and Aziraphale working together can hope to put it right. And they aren’t talking.”

Receiving positive responses from critics and widespread popularity throughout its run, Amazon MGM Studios head of television Vernon Sanders sang more praises for the show. “Good Omens has checked every box for a clever, witty, and funny comedy that not only made it a success on Prime Video but also made ‘goodness’ watchable and fun thanks to Neil and Terry’s immense creativity,” said Amazon MGM Studios head of television Vernon Sanders. “The final season is sure to be packed with the same dynamic energy that our global customers have come to enjoy.”

Currently working on Anansi Boys, Gaiman reprises his role as executive producer, writer, and showrunner for Good Omens Season 3. Rob Wilkins of Narrativia, and BBC Studios Productions’ head of comedy Josh Cole will also return as its executive producers.
