God of War Is The Biggest Winner Of DICE Awards 2019

The epic battle between God of War and Red Dead Redemption II has taken another interesting turn, with God of War taking home nine awards at DICE Awards 2019, including the coveted Game of the Year award.

God of War was the proud recipient of Game of the Year back at The Game Awards 2018, beating out the likes of strong contenders Red Dead Redemption II and Marvel’s Spider-Man, to snag the most coveted award of the night then, and it has done so again.

And while the horse-riding outlaws stole the spotlight at the Geoff Keighley-led event last year, snagging 4 awards (one more than God of War)  but losing out on Game of the Year, the glory of DICE Awards 2019 belongs to Santa Monica Studio’s narrative masterpiece instead. With a whopping nine awards out of 23 categories under their belt, the team proved that last year’s victory was anything but a fluke.

Its other accompanying accolades include Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction, Game Design, Story, Original Music Composition, and more, which is an impressively outstanding feat in itself, as 2018’s winner The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild took top honours in four categories, totalling up to about half of God of War‘s award inventory.

Indie action-platformer darling Celeste was the only other title to win multiple awards, emerging top in the categories of Action Game of the Year and Outstanding Achievement for an Independent Game. Meanwhile, check out the remaining winners below.

A well-deserved, expected win for Santa Monica Studio, it sure was a great time to celebrate all things God of War. Unfortunately, the heavy hitters that are Marvel’s Spider-Man and Red Dead Redemption II fame took quite the stumble, only walking away with one award each, but no matter – both games are already winners in our hearts. Actually, scratch that: everyone’s a winner here!
